Chalon-sur-Saone is a town in east-central France. The River Saone flows close to the town and the Canal du Centre flows through it. These two waterways became the conduit for the transportation of wine, and consequently, the town became a distribution centre. Chalon-sur-Saone's claim to fame is as the cradle of photography. Today, the local economy is thriving and there is a range of industries in the area, including nuclear energy, metallurgy and plastics; Amazon has a distribution centre nearby. Chalon-sur-Saone railway station is on the mainline from Paris to Marseille, and regional trains run from the station, in addition to intercity expresses.
